Beauty Tip#3: A Kissable Pout

•February 9, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Soooo, we all know it’s almost Valentine’s Day, the holiday for the all the lovebirds, and we want to look our best. Lets start with the basics. It’s the kissing holiday so the last thing you want are dry rough lips! Who wants to kiss that? So here’s the trick to getting those enticing kissable lips that’ll leave your man or girl saying, “Hmmhmm good…”

Exfoliate!!!!!

What you’ll need: Half of  a lemon, a little sugar (sounds like lemonade right?) and a warm wash cloth.

1.Squeeze the juice from the lemon in your hand or bowl (however much you like).

2.Grab a teaspoon full of sugar or more, depending on how much juice you  squeezed (you want an equal amount of both).

3. Mix the sugar in with the juice.

4. Use your fingers to slather onto your lips making sure to not scrub too hard.

5. Place the warm wash cloth on lips for about a minute.

6. Rinse the remaining scrub off your lips with warm water.

Follow these steps with your favorite thick lip balm like Burt’s Bees lip balm  and smooth onto lips.

That’s it!!

Beauty Tip #2-Eyebrows

•January 23, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Most of us have heard that “our eyes are the windows to our soul” right? Well, I personally would like a nice a framing for those windows (if you know what I mean).

The EYES have it!! Playing up your eyes with beautiful colors and black liner is great, but lets start with the basics. This is a rule I live by: Keep the eyebrows shaped! One of my pet peeves is to see a woman with beautiful make-up and bushy ungroomed brows! It totally just throws off the entire look.

So just a quick tip for you ladies: Don’t look like Bert and Ernie (if you watched Sesame Street as a kid, you know what I mean) out on the street!! So here’s some easy tips to help you get those perfectly groomed brows ( courtesy of Youtube of course).

If you want to do it yourself here’s a vid with a personal touch. If  you don’t feel comfortable tryingt to do it yourself  get them arched at a beauty salon or nail spa.

Once you’ve got the brows nicely shaped you might need to fill them in. This looks much nicer when you’re dolled up!

Hope this helped!!!

Beauty Tip #1:Smile

•January 17, 2009 • Leave a Comment

I know what you’re thinking, Everyone says this. But there is so much truth to it! Think about it. Smiling instantly lights up your face and eyes. It’s like the easiest beauty tip!

Smiling is contagious. Seeing someone else smile makes you want to smile (unless you’re a complete grouch). For example, the other day I stopped by my brother’s school where he teaches. I greeted everyone with a smile and a “Hello”, and I was greeted the same. It made the day a little brighter (cheesy, huh?).

So, go ahead and try smiling most of the day. It’ll make you feel alot better!

My New Year’s Eve in Zebra Print!!

•January 6, 2009 • 1 Comment

On a previous post I was uncertain about what I was gonna wear to bring in the New Year. I constantly switched back and forth from paints to dresses. I finally decided on a dress! I was  very satisfied with the outcome and yes, I was definitely feeling myself at the club! I felt sexy yet sophisticated and looked my age (23).

One problem, I forgot to take a full body shot of my outfit! Ughhh…( I was having too much fun!) But here’s a pic of the top portion.

newyearsThis isn’t the best pic of me, but you get the point.

The bottom of the dress is figure hugging pencil skirt (stops at the knees), with a high-waisted patent leather belt.

Shoes: Black peep toe stilettos. Nails: Dark Purple

Gotta Luv that Zebra Print….

My Fave Dresses of 2008

If  you pay any attention you will know that ruffles created a major splash in dresses and shirts alike in 2008. I was never a really big fan of ruffles but I found myself liking them more and more ( I blame the media!). Anyways, you must admit they make any dress feminine and worn right you still get that edgy look. Two women who rocked the ruffles but didn’t look over stuffed were….(drumroll)…Rihanna and Charlize Theron!

Rihanna at the Bet Awards in L.A. in a Giambattista Valli gown. Obviously the color was bold and somewhat blinding but it worked!

Charlize Theron in Dior at the N.Y.C.  Christian Dior fashion show. The color was stunning on her. The shoes were an interesting choice that threw me off at first glance but you hardly notice them with the dress being so gorgeous.

The Honorable Mention  spot is awarded to Natalie Portman.

Natalie Protman at the Cannes Film Festival wearing Lanvin. This was such a young and playful yet classy look. She had to be on my list with this little number.

All three of these looks made the Best Dresses of 2008 in People magazine.

Lemon Squeeze:Juicy Buzz In Entertainment (The Hills)

So, I must admit that I am a loyal fanatic of The Hills. I am an addict! Now that it’s out…let’s get down to business. I soooo thought they were gonna announce that this was the last season of the show on the After Show Season Finale. Instead, Lauren (luv her!)  admitted there would be more to come in the Spring.

I have mixed feelings about it. Although I absolutely love the show and have grown up with Lauren since her Laguna days, I kinda want her to move on with her life. I mean geez how long can you let your life be viewed by millions of people each week?

I know it has to be the money ( we all know they get paid, Lauren gets an est. $70,000 each episode). But I really want her line of clothes to florish and as of yet, sales are slow. Maybe if she had more time to devout to her clothing line it would do and be better.

Oh, well, I guess we’ll get to see more drama unfold on The Hills!!!

P.s. Don’t forget to tune in to The City on Dec. 29th… Go Whitney!!!

Pretty In Yellow

I absolutely love Eva Mendes. She manages to look classy without losing the sexy. Her look is soooo effortless. For the LA and London premieres of her new movie The Spirit the color was… BRIGHT YELLOW. Luv it!

At the London premiere 12/04/08

At the Hollywood premeire she wore another yellow gown but this is my fave. I might have done something else with hair and make- up but the dress is fab.

She had to step up her game after getting bad reviews for the dress she wore in Berlin. I honestly didn’t think it was that bad, but she did look like she was going to the office and not on the red carpet.

In Berlin with co-star Scarlett Johansson.

Both oufits screamed adorable but in a “We’re on our way to work” look.

Lemon Squeeze:Juicy Buzz in Entertainment

One of my Bff’s wanted me to update my blog everyday so these entertainment blogs are dedicated to her (hey Meah!!) I was also inspired by something disturbing  I found on Youtube.

All I have to say is, I feel bad for Keyshia Cole sometimes. I’m happy people overcome their trials and tribulations but geez…do you have to act so badly in public? So HOOD. I mean I have nothing against it, keep it real, DO YOU. But do you need that much attention? Listen to Frankie at 2:03. I know she didn’t just say what I think she did…Help them!

My Adventure with Minerals

•December 16, 2008 • 1 Comment

If you are one to wear foundation, you might know how hard it is to find the right match. You know the perfect one that doesn’t clog your pores, isn’t cakey, isn’t so thick you look like a clown. Not to mention the difficulty of finding the right color that isn’t too light or too dark for your skin tone. I know there has to be a better way. I’ve tried almost every brand of liquid foundation; from the least expensive- L’oreal, Rimmel, Maybelline, Covergirl, to the more expensive-Mary Kay and MAC. I’m never really satisfied!

img_1823I thought, maybe I’ll try mineral foundation. My first adventure into the mineral world was L’oreal Bare Naturale. All in all, I like the line so I figured the mineral may not be so bad.  Wrong! Maybe it was the tone, I don’t know. It was all wrong and you could actually see it on my skin! That’s breaking RULE #1 of Foundation application! Not to mention it made my dry skin look like a desert. Maybe in the future I’ll try a different color but for now I’m done with that.

After this disappointing adventure, I went back to wearing my liquid foundation L’oreal’s True Match.

A week ago, I stopped in the wonderful Sephora (awww…I hear the heavenly music) and decided to test out some mineral foundations. I was aiming to try Bare Minerals after constantly seeing their convincing infomercials. The make up artist applied the foundation ( I forgot the color). I loved the way it felt, very smooth. The artist (Maria) confided that although she likes Bare Minerals but Laura Mercier’s Mineral powder is the best.

I was convinced as well after comparing Bare Minerals on one side to Laura Mercier’s in  Pure Honey on the other side of my face. Unfortunately, I already had spent money on clothes so I couldn’t put up another $32 +tax for the Mercier.

I didn’t leave empty handed and luckily got a sample of  Bare Minerals so I was somewhat satisfied.

img_18171It was really tiny, but I’ve been using it for the past week and there is still some left! Another thing, I like the feel of mineral foundation compared to liquid and the blending is excellent. The only downfall is that if you’re into the “dewy look”, liquid is best.

Bare Minerals has been looking good but I think my love is the Laura Mercier. My search for a great foundation is over…hopefully!

Winter Faves that I Crave

•December 8, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Although I detest the cold weather, I love the vibe of Winter.  I don’t know if it’s just because of the holiday season, but there’s something romantic about the change of weather, cute boots, scarves and earmuffs. It brings out the freshness in a person’s face too (you know that flushed dewy look). I ’ve been experimenting with what sets the tone to make me look like the effortless glamourous snow bunny.

Faves for Winter

#1 Nude or bright red lipstick:  I prefer nude myself, but something about this Christmas makes me wanna throw on a sexy bright red color. Tip: Nude colors can wash some skin tones out also make sure it doesn’t look dry or ashy! (big NO, NO!)

#2 False lashes: I prefer the most natural looking that enhances the length for a flirty look.

#3 Wavy hair: I’ve been rocking the waves for a few days and I must say I LUV ‘EM! They’re sexy and easy to do ( I use no heat, I just twist my hair in knots at night and let them loose in the morning). If not waves than try loose curls! They’re really in for winter as well.

#4 Metallic nail polish: I love the dark grayish look for winter. It looks more sophisticated than I thought. Tip: Nails look better if they are short with a little length. If you’re not into the darker colors try a bright apple red.

The catch is to try out new things when the seasons change. A new season for a new style!
